Freeland Soccer Games Benefit CAN

kickn-to-help-kids_2013Kelsey Ropp, a Freeland High School junior, and her teammates will be “Kick’n to Help Kids” on Monday, April 29th.

Purchase a $5 ticket at the soccer field gate of Freeland High School for either the 5pm junior varsity game or the 7pm varsity game against Valley Lutheran. Admission fees, plus proceeds from the sale of pinwheels, game t-shirts, baked goods, 50/50 tickets and concessions will benefit CAN.

Ropp, a Varsity soccer player, spearheaded the annual charity game and is hoping the stands are filled with CAN supporters and soccer enthusiasts alike on April 29th!

Male Survivor Conference Coming to SVSU

The Male Survivor Conference uhopeful-boynites survivors, their support system, and mental health professionals to raise awareness about male sexual abuse. Howard Fradkin, Ph.D., LICDC, who has counseled over 1000 male survivors, will facilitate the conference. Events begin Monday, April 29 at Saginaw Valley State University.

1 in 6 males are victims of sexual abuse. The Great Lakes Bay Male Survivor’s Task Force recognizes the unique needs and therapeutic obstacles male victims face. Conference activities are designed to offer hope, healing and support.

Baby Academy 2013

Having a baby? Have a child under 1? Are you helping raise someone else’s child? Baby Academy is for you!

Register today and plan to come out to Thompson Middle School on Court St. in Saginaw from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. For $3, you’ll learn more about topics that interest you as a parent. You’ll receive lunch and a chance to win a valuable door prize. Car seats, breast pumps and diapers are just a few of the prizes available!

Freeland Lights: Seeing is Believing

Gary Shepard’s annual display of 85,000 Christmas lights synchronized to music is ready for viewing from 5:30 - 10:00 pm each night until December 31st. Visit 7320 W. Freeland Rd., tune your car’s radio to 93.9 FM, and enjoy the show from the warmth of your car! For the fifth consecutive year, Mr. Shepard will be collecting spectator donations for the CAN Council.

Daily shows start at 5:30 pm, and the last show starts at 10:00 pm. Early evening shows start every quarter hour and last about 12 minutes. Shows beginning at 9:00 pm last about 22 minutes and include additional songs.

Country Music for CAN

cancouncil_brbbJim Biggins of ‘94.5 The Moose’ has chosen the CAN Council as one of the Moose Country Causes to benefit from the 4th Annual Bobby Randall Birthday Bash. The day-long country music fest scheduled for noon on Sunday, September 16th at Midland County Fairgrounds features Blackhawk with Confederate Railroad, Steel Wheels Band, Steve Armstrong & The 25 Cent Beer Band, The Brenda Loomis Band, and Kurt Gay & New Horizon.

The CAN Council will receive $5 of every ticket we sell. Purchase your ticket to this country music fest from the CAN Council office in Saginaw or Bay City today! Call Delores or Laura at (989) 752-7226 for more information. Ticket sales are $15 each in advance and $20 at the door.

Kruisin’ 4 Kids Fun Run

Grand Central Sports Bar & Grill is hosting the 4th Annualistockchild-on-mini-bike-large1-web-size1 Kruisin’ 4 Kids Fun Run on Saturday, August 11 to benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Saginaw County. Funds from the Run will help CASA provide advocates for children in Saginaw who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect.

Register your bike or classic car for $10 ($15 with a passenger) at 10am on August 11th at Grand Central in Saginaw. The run begins at 11am and ends back at Grand Central in time for the evening’s Pig Roast.

You don’t need to join the run to enjoy the food! Come out for the Pig Roast from 5 to 7pm for just $10 per person. You’ll find delicious food, a DJ, along with door prizes and raffles, including a limited-ticket raffle for a Harley Davidson.

CAN Auction Item: A Young Man’s Once-In-a-Lifetime Experience

Labadie Pig Gig Supports CAN Council

Tasty ribs, live music and fun for all ages! Head over to Vets Park August 2-5 in Bay City for the 20th Labadie Pig Gig. Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region - Nathan Weidner Center.

Chicken BBQ & Motorcycle Poker Run For CAN

Join us for delicious food & fun times at the 16th Annual Nathan Weidner Foundation Chicken BBQ and 10th Annual Chicken Run on Sunday, July 29. A portion of the events’ proceeds will be contributed to the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region - Nathan Weidner Center.

Get your $10 ticket for the Chicken BBQ by calling (989) 684-8888 or stopping into either the Bay or Saginaw CAN Council office today! Children ages 6 and under eat FREE. Bring the whole family to Bay City’s Vets Park between 11 am and 6 pm for a dinner of BBQ chicken, homemade fries, baked beans, coleslaw, fresh watermelon and soda. Enjoy the event raffles, silent auction, door prizes, bingo, children’s activities & a petting zoo.

Motorcyclists will indulge in the BBQ at the completion of their nearly 100 mile Chicken Run. Come along for the ride! Register between 8:30 and 10:30 am on July 29 and start the Run at: Stevens’ Cycle Sales in Bay City, Stevens’ Sport Center in Midland or Bubba’s Tri-City Cycle in Linwood.
