Privacy Policy

All the information about past or present clients of the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region, including the CAC - Children’s Advocacy Center and the CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocate programs are strictly confidential and shall be handled in compliance with all applicable federal and state statutes and in accordance with professional ethics and standards. All employees (past and present), consultants, students, and volunteers are required to comply with this policy.

All employees, students, consultants and volunteers are required to keep confidential any and all information pertaining to families or others involved with the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region.   A violation of the confidentiality policy can result in disciplinary action up to, and including dismissal. In addition, persons violating the confidentiality policy may be subject to civil action, criminal penalties or professional discipline.

This policy requires :

• All employees, students, consultants and volunteers will not share any case information outside the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region, except as part of the work with collaborating agencies such as Protective Services or Law Enforcement.

• All employees, students, consultants and volunteers will not talk about knowledge gained of specific cases that may appear in the public media.

• All employees, students, consultants and volunteers will not initiate contact with clients or their family members when encountered in public places or acknowledge familiarity with them as it relates to Council business.
