Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC)

Our Children’s Advocacy Centers provide a safe, supportive environment in which children who have been physically or sexually abused or have witnessed a violent act can be interviewed and examined.

In the past, a child may have been interviewed by as many as 13 professionals in different locations – in the back of a police car, at school or even in the emergency room. This has changed with access to the Children’s Advocacy Centers. A child is now interviewed only once, in a child-friendly environment, by a specially trained forensic interviewer.

Our CACs’ partnership with Central Michigan University College of Medicine students and residents provides education for future physicians and offers medical exams for each child who visits a CAN Council CAC.
