During the game, the CAN Council will present Nate & April Rose of 102.5 WIOG’s “Nate & April in the Morning” as the CAN Council Adult Superheroes of the Year. This award is given to individuals who are making a positive impact on the lives of children in our community. The 2019 CAN Council Adult Superheroes of the Year award goes to Nate & April Rose based on their dedication to making a difference in the lives of children in their profession but also in their personal lives. Nate & April have demonstrated their commitment to children by becoming foster parents. They adopted their children from foster care and continue to advocate for children through their volunteer service to the CAN Council, inspiring others as they share their family’s personal journey through the foster and adoption system. They also lead a holiday drive through Cumulus Media to put gifts and personal care items in the hands of hundreds of children and families in the Great Lakes Bay Region each year.
The 2019 CAN Council Child Superhero of the Year award goes to the children of Nikki Culver’s Hemlock daycare. Nikki has been a volunteer for 15+ years and annually gets her daycare kiddos in on supporting the CAN Council mission. Each year, they host a lemonade stand, and all proceeds benefit the CAN Council. The children proudly present their earnings to our CAN Council staff each summer. Prior to launching the lemonade stand, the children also held penny drives and performed skits, all to raise money for CAN Council services. They’re an inspiration to children & adults alike – no matter our age or size, we can all help build communities free of child abuse and neglect!
