Leave a legacy gift
You can ensure safer futures for our community’s most vulnerable children and families with a planned gift.
"Children are the legacy we leave for the time we will not live to see."
Ensure a safer future for children by leaving a legacy gift in several ways. You can include CAN Council in your Will & Living Trust, Retirement Account, or Beneficiary Designation. This support will help prevent child abuse and neglect, creating safer and healthier communities for children and families to thrive.
Create a gift through your will or living trust
Just one sentence in your will or living trust can change the life of a child in your community. You can create a gift for CAN Council in your will or living trust via a Specific Bequest, a Donation of Real Estate by Will, or a Residuary Bequest. Explore these 3 options with your trusted Estate Planner and view sample verbiage by county below:
Set up a gift directly from your retirement account
You may be eligible to make a gift directly from your individual retirement account (IRA), 401(k), or other retirement account through a beneficiary designation. Ask your plan administrator to provide you with the appropriate form(s) to complete.
A qualified charitable distribution (QCD), also called an IRA charitable rollover, allows your donation to make a difference for our children right away and provide a tax savings.
If you are 70 ½ or older, you may give a gift (up to $100,000) directly to CAN Council without having to pay income taxes on the money, and your gift may qualify for your required minimum distribution.

Assign a beneficiary designation
Many people who choose to leave a legacy gift to charity do so through beneficiary designation of life insurance or bank accounts. To add CAN Council as a beneficiary, please contact your attorney, plan administrator or financial institution for instructions. If you designate CAN Council as the beneficiary of any of your accounts, please use our name and Federal Tax ID number.
Life Insurance
Update your beneficiary designation form with the policy holder to designate CAN Council as the primary or contingent beneficiary for a percentage or specific amount.
Bank Accounts
By setting up a Payable on Death (POD) or Transfer on Death (TOD) designations on your bank accounts, CD’s, or brokerage accounts/mutual funds, you can transfer these assets at your death to CAN Council.
